BOSSIER SCHOOLS NAMES ITS TEACHERS OF THE YEAR

There was applause, cheers and lots of smiles Thursday night at Bossier Instructional Center as Bossier Schools’ Teachers of the Year were named.

Each school’s Teacher of the Year was recognized, as well as the district winners and overall regional representative.

This is a humbling honor, given that educators’ peers are the ones that nominate them. Family, friends and colleagues were on hand for a show of support and to present them with corsages and congratulatory wishes.

On the district level, Platt art teacher Nadine Charity was chosen as the Elementary Teacher of the Year.

Charity boasted about Platt’s excellent legion of teachers and said “I am proud to represent them.”

Afiya Code, who teaches at Greenacres Middle School, was selected as Bossier’s Middle School Teacher of the Year.

“Thanks, Bossier, for the being the best parish in the world to work for,” Code said at the School Board meeting. “And to the teachers at Greenacres, you rock!”

Sarah Stevenson, from Airline High School, was excited to be named the Parish High School Teacher of the Year.

“It is a huge honor and I am proud to represent Airline and the amazing administration,” Stevenson said. “They make you feel that you work with them, not for them. I’ve worked in another school district before and there is no place quite like Bossier Parish to work for.”

Afiya Code was named Bossier’s overall Teacher of the Year and went on to represent the parish at the regional level.

“It was an honor to represent Bossier Parish,” Code said. “Bossier has such high standards. It was a great experience. I got to meet other educators who love the kids like I do, like we all do.”

Congratulations to all of our Teachers of the Year. It is your dedication to the children of Bossier Parish that makes our school system strong.
