ABOUT THE PROGRAMS
Designed in accordance with the National Science Standards, the Louisiana Science Content Standards and correlated to the Comprehensive and Common Core Curriculum, all of the Cypress Nature Study Center’s educational programs engage children in hands-on/minds-on, participatory activities that reinforce students’ scientific knowledge, methods, and processes.
Most programs include an outdoor activity that allows students to apply what they’ve learned in the classroom to the natural environment.
Grades: Pre-K – K
Developmentally appropriate programs have been prepared for children ages 3-6. Each program introduces children to nature through cooperative learning, hands-on activities and exploration.
Grades: 1st -2nd
These programs are designed to encourage scientific exploration and stimulate knowledge development through hands-on/minds-on activities. Each program includes a guided hike through the center and nature trails.
Grades: 3rd – 7th
The third – seventh grade programs are designed to promote awareness, appreciation and knowledge of the environment, and create good stewards for the future.
Summer tours are all self-guided but we do schedule you on specific days to make sure there are not too many people in our facilities at one time. These groups will be able to move at their own pace and with their own emphasis. Each group will get a walk through of the nature center plus have the opportunity to hike on our nature trails. Trail maps will be provided for the leaders of the group. We encourage you to bring field guides, magnifying lenses, binoculars, and even your cameras.
The Cypress Nature Study Center can provide a variety of workshops designed to help with ideas and skills that can be utilized in the classroom. They include Project Wet, Project Learning Tree, Project WILD, Aquatic WILD and other science related workshops. For more information contact the Nature Center at (318) 965-5800.
