English Learners are identified as students who lack the necessary English skills to fully participate in classes taught in English due to one of the following:

• First language learned is a language other than English
• Comes from a home where a language other than English is predominately spoken
• English is not their primary language

To instruct and encourage EL students in their social and academic English language development through a positive and risk free environment so that they may meet the same academic standards as native speakers while at the same time maintaining their multicultural identities.
