Children of members of the United States military personnel residing on Barksdale Air Force Base shall be permitted to attend any grade-appropriate school within the Bossier Parish School district, conditioned only on the capacity of the receiving school, as determined by the Bossier Parish School Board, and a mandatory annual review process.
Military families living on Barksdale East are zoned for the Haughton district schools, but may also participate in School of Choice.
Parents must fill out the appropriate paperwork and provide proof of residency to Bossier Parish Schools. If the student will be new to School of Choice and is already residing on base, the paperwork will need to be available May 1, 2023, and will need to be completed by July 11, 2023. New student registration will be available on July 11, 2023. New, incoming families may apply for School of Choice upon arrival to the area throughout the academic school year.
Families may pick up the necessary application at 801 Kenney Avenue, Col dePyssler MSG Bldg. 2nd floor, room 2101, and at the Bossier Parish School Board office, Annex II located at 410 Sibley Street, Benton, LA. Please call Jacqueline Robertson BAFB School Liaison Program Manager at 318-564-9099 or Holly George, Bossier Parish Military Family Manager at 318-549-6813. Families will then need to take the completed application to the BPSB office, Annex II along with:
(1) military ID with written verification that parent/legal guardian is a member of the military and stationed at BAFB
(2) written documentation of residence on BAFB – BAFB housing assignment form or copy of current lease.
Parents must provide transportation if selecting a school other than their designated zoned school. Once a school of choice is requested, parents only have the ability to transfer students back to their originally designated zoned school. Parents cannot repeatedly invoke School of Choice in the same year.
