Military Family Support
-
Stockwell Place Elementary is a high-performing, neighborhood school with a diverse population of students. Our military-connected students make up approximately one-third of our student population.
One of our main priorities is creating a welcoming environment where all students feel valued and supported. The support for our new students begins by assigning them a "buddy" to help show them around the school, assist them with classroom routines, and introduce them to new friends. Each morning, we begin our day with connection circles. Connection circles are a relationship-building process used to promote understanding, share experiences, and build relationships. These are just a few examples of the many ways we work to build a positive school environment.
We love to recognize and celebrate our military families with events like our Veterans Day Parade and Assembly, Lunch on the Lawn, and Purple Up Day.

Veterans Day
Veterans Day is a special day at Stockwell Place Elementary. We invite all Veterans and current military service members that are affiliated with a Stockwell Place student to join us for our Veterans Day Parade and Assembly. On the day of the celebration, classes line the track outside with flags and banners to cheer on our service members and military students as they parade around the schoolyard. Immediately following the parade, a student-led assembly takes place to honor all service members with handmade Thank You cards for each service member, student-written poetry about Veterans Day, a special tribute from our SPE Honor Choir, and more. A reception follows the assembly with cupcakes and punch!

Lunch on the Lawn
April is designated as the Month of the Military Child, emphasizing the important role military children play in the armed forces community. At Stockwell Place, we celebrate our military families by hosting a Lunch on the Lawn. All parents that are active, reserve, or retired are invited to join their student(s) for lunch. Parents bring lunch and a blanket or lawn chairs and have a picnic with their military child. Red River Bank supplies ice cream and popsicles for our students and their guests. It is a great time for our military students to connect with each other and have some fun on the playground with their families. All students are invited to wear purple shirts in recognition and appreciation of our military students.
