• What is PBIS?

Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) provides a positive and effective alternative to the traditional methods of discipline. PBIS methods are research-based and proven to significantly reduce the occurrence of problem behaviors in the school, resulting in a more positive school climate and increased academic performance. PBIS is consistent with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, and Act 1225, Juvenile Justice Reform Act (R.S. 17:252), which advocates the use of positive behavior interventions and supports and school-based disciplinary strategies that reduce or eliminate the need to use suspension and expulsion as disciplinary options. Its primary purpose is to increase the amount of instructional time for all students, particularly those with challenging behaviors by building the capacity of LEA’s and schools to use a data-driven approach that is educationally oriented, emphasizes proactive practices, and are effective with promoting social-behavioral competence of staff and students.

    Cougar Code

Treat others the way you want to be treated.

Be respectful, be responsible, be safe.

    "Paws"itive Passess

Students can earn "Paws"itive passes when a staff member catches a student being respectful, responsible, and/or safe in any area of our campus. Students put the passes in a grade level bucket in the office. Each week, Mrs. Clinton draws 2 winners per grade level for a prize.

    "Paws"itive Concession Passes

Faculty members have a quick reward for students, too, with a concession pass/ticket for a $.50 item at our school concession stand during lunch break.  Students that are making wise choices, showing appropriate peer interactions that are helpful, or displaying good manners may be the recipients of the concessions treat as our faculty looks to reward students each day.

    Cougars of the Week

Every week, each homeroom teacher chooses a Cougar of the Week that has been respectful, responsible and/or safe.

    "Paws"itive Teacher Pass

Staff and students can write a "Paws"itive Teacher Pass to any school employee that has been safe, respectful, and/or responsible. One pass is drawn weekly and the employee receives a $10 gift card.
