  • Jennifer Burris
    Principal
As an alumnus of Benton High School, I am excited to serve as Principal in the community that I have proudly called home for many years. After graduating from Benton High School in 1997, I went on to earn my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from LSU-Shreveport in 2000 and later earned my Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from the same University. I was a passionate math teacher at Haughton Middle School for 10 years prior to serving as a middle school Instructional Coach at both Greenacres and Elm Grove Middle Schools. In 2015, I accepted a position as Assistant Principal at Benton Middle School under the leadership of Dr. Kyle Machen. During that time, I played and instrumental role in creating a highly effective system of interventions to support struggling learners that can be credited with a 94.3 percent reduction in failing grades. This is a testament to my belief that ALL students can learn when we have a "whatever it takes" mindset and a heart for kids. Outside of school, I enjoy traveling and spending time with my family. My husband, Joel Burris, is an Assistant Band Director at Haughton High School. Our oldest daughter, Audrey, is a nursing student at Northwestern State University and our youngest daughter, Kelsey, will be starting at Northwestern in the Fall. I am looking forward to an exciting new year! Tiger Pride!
