  • Jennifer Burris
    Principal

As an alumnus of Benton High School, I am excited to serve as Principal in the community that I have proudly called home for many years. After graduating from Benton High School in 1997, I went on to earn my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from LSU-Shreveport in 2000 and later earned my Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from the same University. I was a passionate math teacher at Haughton Middle School for 10 years prior to serving as a middle school Instructional Coach at both Greenacres and Elm Grove Middle Schools. In 2015, I accepted a position as Assistant Principal at Benton Middle School under the leadership of Dr. Kyle Machen. During that time, I played and instrumental role in creating a highly effective system of interventions to support struggling learners that can be credited with a 94.3 percent reduction in failing grades. This is a testament to my belief that ALL students can learn when we have a "whatever it takes" mindset and a heart for kids. Outside of school, I enjoy traveling and spending time with my family. My husband, Joel Burris, is an Assistant Band Director at Haughton High School. Our oldest daughter, Audrey, is a nursing student at Northwestern State University and our youngest daughter, Kelsey, will be starting at Northwestern in the Fall. I am looking forward to an exciting new year! Tiger Pride!

    Assistant Principal

I am honored to serve as one of the Assistant Principals at Benton Intermediate. After graduating from West Ouachita High in 2001, I pursued a Bachelor's Degree from Louisiana Tech University. I furthered my studies by earning a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership, equipping me with skills needed to contribute to the growth and success of both educators and students.

My career in education commenced when I began teaching in Caddo Parish. My family moved to Bossier Parish in 2011, and I obtained a teaching position at Benton Elementary where I dedicated my efforts to fostering a positive learning environment. In 2015, I transitioned to Kingston Elementary, bringing with me a passion for education and a commitment to student achievement. The opening of Benton Intermediate in 2020 marked a new chapter in my career, as I took on the role of Instructional Coach. Collaborating with educators, I aimed to enhance teaching strategies and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.

Beyond the school setting, I cherish the moments spent with my husband, Kyle, and our two sons, Carson and Easton. I also enjoy exploring new destinations through travel and delving into the pages of captivating books. These hobbies enrich my perspective and fuel my commitment to providing a well-rounded education for each learner.

As Assistant Principal, I am thankful for the opportunity to work collaboratively with the Benton Intermediate community as we continue to create an environment where students thrive. Together, we inspire a love for learning and empower our Tigers to reach their fullest potential!
