We want to thank each of you for your patience and understanding during this time of uncertainty as our community, state and nation fight to slow the spread of COVID-19.

There are far more questions than answers at this time, but Bossier Schools remains committed to keeping you updated as we receive information. Yesterday, Bossier Schools Superintendent Mitch Downey participated in a joint news conference with city and parish officials, and later answered questions during a call-in segment at a local news outlet. He knows your child's education weighs heavily on your mind. Here are a few updates as well as reminders that may interest you:

  • To retrieve personal belongings, check out technology, printed packets of supplemental learning materials or a hard copy of your child’s report card, appointments can be made to visit our school sites Monday and Tuesday, March 23 and 24. Please visit the individual school websites to contact the principal.
  • Louisiana has submitted several waivers regarding graduation and promotional requirements, as well as state assessments, to the U.S. Department of Education. While we fully expect those to be approved, it is yet to be determined because no one can predict to what extent we will be impacted or for how long.
  • The May 16 graduation date is fluid. Though the ceremony is still scheduled for that date at the present time, it may have to be adjusted. We are mindful this is a huge concern for our high school seniors and their families, but even if the ceremony must be delayed, Bossier Schools is committed to find a date to reschedule.
  • The ACT national test administration scheduled for April 4 has been rescheduled for June 13. All students who were registered for April testing will receive an email from ACT with instructions for free rescheduling to June or other future dates.
  • The Louisiana Department of Education is working with ACT to identify new dates for state testing windows in lieu of the March 17 testing that was canceled.
  • As of this posting, classes are set to resume Tuesday, April 14, 2020. That date, however, will be evaluated by our Louisiana Governor closer to the time.
  • A wealth of resources regarding internet access, state education communications, health information and tips on talking with your children about coronavirus is available at your fingertips. We encourage you to keep visiting our website and clicking on the top banner.

Bossier Schools is, and always will be, a family -- and what does family do in both good times and during a crisis? We pull together. Let’s all please lift up each other, show compassion and be good neighbors. Not only will we emerge from this storm because we are Bossier Strong, but we will come out on the other side even stronger.
