And the 2023 GRAMMY Music Educator of the Year is …
We are all crossing our fingers for Cory Craig, the band director at Benton Intermediate School, who has been announced as a quarterfinalist for the second year by the Recording Academy and GRAMMY Museum.
Craig has been singled out again as one of 207 music teachers out of nearly 1,500 nominated to make it to the next round. Semifinalists will be announced in September.
“It still blows my mind!” exclaimed Craig, whose own love for music began in middle school while she was in foster care. It became her escape and Craig went from being a failing student to making A’s. She vowed during her seventh grade year to become a band director to help give others the same outlet and experience.
The Music Educator Award was established to recognize educators who have made a significant and lasting contribution to the field of music education and who demonstrate a commitment to the broader cause of maintaining music education in schools.
