Bossier Schools Celebrates School Board Recognition Month
January is National School Board Recognition Month and Bossier Schools celebrates its board representatives for their dedication and commitment to the nearly 23,000 students, more than 3,000 employees and 45 schools and facilities across the district.
The Louisiana School Board Association’s theme for 2023 is “We Believe All Our Students Can Achieve” and that is accomplished with the guidance of the 12 Bossier Parish School Board members elected to serve by the public.
As a link between the community and the classroom, a school board’s primary responsibilities are to hire the superintendent, establish policies that provide the framework and guidance for the district and to approve the budget.
A Passing of the Gavel ceremony was held at the January 19 meeting at which time District 2 Representative Kent Bockhaus took the Oath of Office as the 2023 Board President. District 4 Representative Duane Deen will serve this year as Vice President. Newly-elected representatives Craton Cochran and Erick Falting were also sworn in, as were returning board members.
Board members serving Bossier Schools are: District 1, Billie Jo Brotherton; District 2, Kent Bockhaus; District 3, Tammy Smith; District 4, Duane Deen; District 5, Adam Bass; District 6, Glen Bullard; District 7, Craton Cochran; District 8, Kenneth Wiggins; District 9, Eric Newman; District 10, Samm Darby; District 11, Robert Bertrand; and District 12, Erick Falting.
