Cope Middle Youth Legislature Takes Baton Rouge

Cope Middle School is back at it again. Their Youth Legislature program, led by sponsor Rhonda Samuels, is heading to Baton Rouge for the eighth year in a row. 

Youth Legislature introduces students to the legislative process in a fun and exciting way. The candidates who will be running for office include Cooper Fontaine for Governor, Addalyn Allen for Speaker of the House and Alex Perez for President of the Senate. The other student members have worked all year writing and submitting bills. They will participate in a two-day mock legislative session March 6-7 at the Old State Capitol in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. 

Many students are participating in this fun and exciting experience. The 8th graders include: Addalyn Allen, Carter Ashby, Kaylee Cooper, Roslyn Dabkowski, Cole East, Cooper Fontaine, Alexis Grayson, Kinsley Hall, Evie Henagan, Claire Jacobsen, Jackson Lawrence, Anjole Morris, Alexa O’Have, Alex Perez, and Rebecca Williams. The 7th graders include Roxanne Carlisle, Makenna Gilbert, Connor Jackson, Elise Johnson, Zachary Kolnisk, Alexis Leblanc, Elijah Peterson, Jackson Rose, Hunter Rushing, Marissa Salinas and Will Vance.
