Aerospace Educator Receives Top Award From Air Force Association
Bossier Schools Flight Simulator instructor Brett Barrow is normally the one presenting the coveted Ace of Aces Award to the top student aviators he teaches, but recently the tables were turned.
During the aerospace assembly at Elm Grove Middle School, representatives from the local Air Force Association (AFA) Chapter #159 and Louisiana State AFA awarded Barrow with its Teacher of the Year distinction in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) category.
Barrow, who is a retired Master Sergeant with the U.S. Air Force, travels to Bossier Parish middle schools and over the years has instructed approximately 22,000 students in the science of aeronautics.
Barrow was presented with certificates from the AFA local and state chapters, an embroidered jacket, notebook, lapel pins and a check.
Co-sponsored by Rolls Royce, the AFA Teacher of the Year award recognizes individuals who demonstrate excellence in education in the spirit of Christa McAuliffe, an American teacher and astronaut who died during the Space Shuttle Challenger mission. The award also recognizes sustained, outstanding performance as an educator and unequalled education to ensure that America’s students are prepared for the aerospace technological challenges of the future.
