January is Louisiana School Board Recognition Month

January not only means flipping the calendar to a new year, but also the start of School Board Recognition Month – a time set aside when the Louisiana School Board Association Board of Directors recognizes and celebrates school board members for their service and leadership.

The 12 Bossier Parish School Board representatives are among 643 locally elected school board members from across the state of Louisiana whose actions and decisions affect our children, both in the present and future.

It is not an easy job. School board members increasingly face unprecedented challenges in trying to navigate controversial topics in K-12 public education as they make decisions and policy to elevate the educational experience.

On behalf of Bossier Schools, we offer sincere thanks to BPSB representatives Billie Jo Brotherton, District 1; Kent Bockhaus, District 2; Tammy Smith, District 3; Duane Deen, District 4; Adam Bass, District 5; Glen Bullard, District 6; J.W. Slack, District 7; Kenneth Wiggins, District 8; Eric Newman, District 9; Samm Darby, District 10; Robert Bertrand, District 11; and Dennis Bamburg, Jr., District 12.

Superintendent Mitch Downey presented BPSB representatives with a certificate of recognition at the January 6, 2022 board meeting. A proclamation was also read from Bossier Parish Police Jury President Jerome Darby.
