Haughton Elementary is celebrating the end of the school year with a state distinction they have worked hard to attain; the Buccaneers are now a Purple Star School.
Principal Yvae Johnson and her administrative team were surprised with the news they had been approved for the Purple Star distinction by the Louisiana Department of Education. Meeting the criteria to be declared a Purple Star School is not easy, which is what makes it significant. Schools must meet a high standard when it comes to providing various support services and resources to military children and their families.
Military Family Manager Holly George presented a banner designating the school’s Purple Star distinction. Bossier Chamber of Commerce President Lisa Johnson was also on hand to declare Haughton Elementary a Military Community Champion.
Haughton Elementary is the 28th Purple Star School in the district, demonstrating a strong commitment to the more than 3-thousand dependents attending Bossier Schools. Congratulations to the Buccaneers.
