Group of people cut ribbon in front of the new girls' field house at Parkway High.

A snip of the ribbon marked the official opening of a new girls’ field house at Parkway High, a facility that is being called a “game changer” for female athletics.

The new field house will serve all female athletes in cross-country, powerlifting, softball, soccer, track and volleyball. Funds were allocated from the 2012 construction bond program as part of a South Bossier improvement plan, spearheaded by Bossier Parish School Board representatives elected in the community.

Now designed to function for numerous sports at once, the field house opens up huge opportunities for girls’ athletics. Encompassing four-thousand square feet, the facility has a weight/cardio room, laundry room, athlete lockers, equipment storage, a tape room and coaches’ offices.

“We’re thrilled,” said PHS Head Softball Coach Kelsey Gallman. “I think it’s going to be a game changer and it’s just amping us up to that next level that we need to take and use it day in and day out so that we’re not having to fight the boys for weights.  It will definitely benefit the girls.”
