A new face has been passed the gavel as President of the Bossier Parish School Board for 2026, although hers is a familiar one to many.
District 4 Representative Sherri Pool was elected President by fellow board members and assumed the leadership position at the January 15 BPSB meeting. District 5 Representative Logan McConathy was elected to serve as Vice President.
Pool brings vast knowledge and educational experience to the table, retiring from Bossier Schools after having served 39 years as a teacher, principal, supervisor and Human Resources Director. Below are her remarks made following the ceremonial moment when Superintendent Jason Rowland handed her the gavel.
“First, I want to give thanks to God for the opportunity to serve as President of the Bossier Parish School Board for 2026. I am a product of Bossier Schools, a proud alum of Bossier High School.
Having served 39 years in Bossier Schools as a teacher, principal, supervisor and Human
Resources Director, my vision and commitment is to ensure that every student has a high
quality educational experience that is fostered through collaborative processes and grounded in
academic excellence.
We will continue to work to ensure that every student not only achieves their full potential, but thrives in Winning the Day. Special thanks to Mr. Newman for his expertise and dedication to this board, our school system and community in his service as board president. Thank you fellow board members for the confidence and trust you have placed in me. I truly love this school system and am humbly grateful for this opportunity.
I want to recognize my family here tonight, but first I want to give honor to my parents, two of
God’s greatest blessings in my life. B.J. & Frances Thomas instilled in me to always put God
first and led by their example. My Daddy was a gospel preacher with a positive and big
personality. He would tell me when I was a little girl that I was going to be the president some
day. Well, Daddy I guess you were right after all....this is that day.
My mother was a teacher in Bossier Parish for 26 years and there are many here tonight that were impacted by her as a teacher in Bossier Parish. When I followed in her footsteps as a Bossier Parish teacher, I had big shoes to fill. I miss my parents, but their influence on my life is everlasting.”
